Homemade Luxe Anti Ageing Face Serum

WP_20151104_005 (2) 2 I have been on a mission to try and rid our home, and selves, of as many chemicals as possible after practically getting rid of my daughters eczema in less than 3 days using only natural products, (which I will post about soon). And so began my essential oil obsession!

I’d dabbled in essential oils in my twenties, but then came children and I’d forgotten how amazing they are!  Unfortunately for me, as I’m sure in the baby years I’d have appreciated the calming effects of Lavender oil!

As I started to research and re-learn about essential oils I came across lots of face serum recipes. The idea of putting an oil on my 36 year old face sounded like some sort of face plumping amazingness, in theory though, whenever any oil got anywhere near my skin it took precisely 12 hours for my face to break out in spots. Any sort of rich cream, oil or serum would bring me out in the teenage spots that I never had as a teenager! But as a girl who lives in hope I decided to give it a go.

I think I read about every type of eo possible and the effects they have on the skin. There is literally something for everyone. Some oils to consider for the following skin types are

Dry Skin – Rose, Cedarwood, Neroli, Sandalwood

Oily Skin – Bergamot, Clary Sage, Orange, Peppermint, Tea tree

Sensitive Skin – Jasmine, Lavender, Geranium

Ageing Skin – Ylang Ylang, Rosemary, Patchouli, Myrrh, Frankincense

Lavender oil is an all round great oil that can be used on any skin type.

For mine I decided on a blend of Clary Sage, Frankincense, Rosehip and sweet almond oil.

I’m glad I learned the benefits of so many oils and didn’t just copy a blend from Pinterest as I hit gold with my blend first go. I use it EVERY SINGLE night, without fail. And my skin? Well it’s never been clearer. I put it on as part of my nightly ritual. It feels luxurious and it smells really beautiful. I put half a dropper worth in my hand, inhale a big lungful of the gorgeous scent and then gently rub it all over my face. In the morning my skin glows!! Genuinely. I have never had a ‘glowy’ morning face, like ever, I thought they were an urban myth. They aren’t!

If you want to try out my Luxe Anti Ageing Serum, here is the recipe. Don’t be afraid to play about with it. I use sweet almond oil for nearly every recipe as it’s light and easily absorbed, but if your skin can take something richer like jojoba then feel free to substitute it. Likewise, if you feel your skin would benefit from other essential oils, again just substitute or include in the recipe!

WP_20151104_002 (2) 1And don’t forget, you’ll be getting the visible benefits from the essential oils, but you’ll be getting the added healing properties of the essential oils you use. Within twenty minutes of topically applying a blend it will have penetrated the dermis and capillaries and will be being carried around the bloodstream, delivering all the goodness of the oils to all parts of the body. So don’t forget to read about the emotional and physical benefits as well as the skin advantages, as you’ll be receiving all the blessings from these little treasure bottles.
